He is a spiritual being who is superior to humans in power and intelligence, a "half-fallen" angel (a demon who refused to surrender to evil).
In his struggle to climb back up the celestial hierarchy, the higher powers have appointed Mr. Crimson the leader of all other "half-fallen" angels and have given him the special task of being a gaurdian of and protecting reckless humans who have themselves begun to "fall".
